Volunteer Position Descriptions

Catch Gallery Operator

Responsible for operating the fishing simulators located in the Catch Gallery of the Hall of Fame.

This individual will enhance the museum guest’s experience by providing a knowledgeable and accessible staff member.

Duties and skills required:

  • Be familiar with the layout of the museum to give accurate directions and information

  • Successfully complete shadowing of current volunteer that has been operating the simulators for over 6 months

  • Enjoy working with people and be able to handle large groups of adults or students

  • Greet guests as they enter the facility, answer guests’ questions, and point out the features and highlights

  • Strong customer service skills

World Records Assistant 

This position will be responsible for assisting the World Records Department under the Conservation Department at the IGFA.

Duties and skills required:

  • Assist with our world records database
  • Certification of scales
  • Test lines and tippet samples submitted for world records
  • Mailing and light filing
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Consistency, punctuality, and detail-oriented are a must

Library Aide Volunteer

To provide clerical and administrative support in the E.K. Harry Library of Fishes for the Librarian and IGFA Biologist.  Instruction in use of Library catalog database, and patron interaction, will be provided. 

Duties and skills required: 

  • Filing, shelving, weeding and/or moving Library materials
  • Labeling slides and photographs
  • Dusting and cleaning silver trophies, display cases, bookshelves
  • Support staff with (or working independently on) short and long-term research
  • May be asked to cover Library in absence of Librarian and part-time Library Assistant
  • Library instruction provided.  However, computer experience helpful in locating resources, internet search, scanning images, emails, etc.
  • Language skills for translations and welcoming international guests beneficial
  • Be upbeat and enthusiastic about the Hall of Fame and the IGFA
  • Enjoy working with people

 

Note:  this position would best “fit” an individual with special care and attention to detail, ability to self motivate, and an appreciation for quiet surroundings.
