Before you go out fishing for records, you might want to put these items together.

1. Camera, IGFA requires that pictures be submitted with each world record application.
2. Measuring tape, so you can measure the length and girth of the fish. There are many available but try to find a soft tape so that you can wrap it around the fish.
3. Scale, you can either send your scale to the IGFA and for $30.00 we will examine the scale and , and send back to you by regular parcel post, or you can use a certified scale at one of the IGFA Official Weigh Stations. If the scale used was not certified at the time of the catch, you can mail the scale along with the application and IGFA will examine it as stated above.
4. Records, both current and pending. It is always a good idea to have a current book of World Record Game Fishes handy or visit the IGFA website and print out the current records as well as any that may be pending (if you are targeting a specific species) for the fish you are trying to catch.
5. Paper and pencil to write down the length of time to boat the fish, length and girth of fish and any other notes that may be pertinent to your catch.

6. Dry bag, you might want to put all of these items into a bag that will keep them dry. It would be tragic if you caught a potential record, photographed it and then the camera got wet and you were not able to submit the application.
