IGFA Chester H. Wolfe Outstanding Sportsmanship Award

The inaugural year for the IGFA – Chester H. Wolfe Outstanding Sportsmanship Award was marked at the 28th Annual IGFA International Auction & Banquet. Mrs. Barbara Wolfe, Chester’s widow, was in attendance as the award was presented to Mr. Loren Monterroso from Honduras. Monterroso’s name was submitted for the award by tournament director Devin McNab from the Roatan International Billfish Tournament. While fishing the tournament, Monterroso noticed that a fellow angler was hooked up with a blue marlin but there were sharks tailing the fish trying to eat it. Monterroso quickly pulled in his lines and went over to the boat that was hooked up. He tossed a line out with a piece of tuna on it and eventually caught and released the shark, allowing the other boat to successfully catch and release the marlin. As a true testament to his demeanor, and to the spirit of the IGFA-Chester H. Wolfe award, Monterroso graciously gave up his chance at winning the tournament in order to help a fellow angler.

The IGFA would like to thank all of the tournaments that nominated anglers for with this year’s award. There were so many great entries that it was very difficult to choose just one winner. We invite all IGFA Offshore Championship Qualifying Tournaments to participate in our 2012 nomination process. Participating tournaments for the 2011 IGFA – Chester H. Name & contact information of your nominee should then be submitted to IGFA Headquarters along with a smallwritten submission stating simply why you chose to nominate that individual based on the criteria of the award.

The Annual Recipient Will Receive:

• One entry for the 2013 IGFA Fishing Expedition (location to be determined)
• Round-trip coach airfare for one to  the IGFA International Auction & Banquet to be held at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum
• A two-night hotel stay in Ft. Lauderdale during the event
• A plaque to be given out at the IGFA International Auction & Banquet
• A name plate on a perpetual trophy in the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum
