NOAA Modifies Commercial and Recreational Fishing Closure in Oil-Affected Portions of the Gulf of Mexico

The National Oceanagraphic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has established a process to expedite changes to the areas closed to fishing in the Gulf of Mexico - which can be modified daily if necessary - and provide daily updates to the public. NOAA will provide updates to the Southeast Region's newly established oil spill web page by 12 p.m. EST. Any changes to the closed area will become effective at 6 p.m. EST the same day. For more details and a map of the modified area visit the Southeast Region's oil spill web page at http://sero.nmfs.noaa.gov.

Current revisions to the closure, described below, will be effective on June 2, 2010 at 6 p.m. eastern time (5 p.m. central time). All commercial and recreational fishing including catch and release is prohibited in the closed area; however, transit through the area is allowed.
