Once again, we are proud to hold the championship at the breathtaking Hotel Finisterra.
This is truly one of the premier destination resorts in all of Mexico. Whether strolling on
the white sands, lounging by one of three spectacular pools or sampling the local fare
prepared by the chefs at Hotel Finisterra, it simply does not get any better.
Conveniently situated for a short five-minute walk to the scenic Cabo Harbor, indulge
yourself with the fine amenities of the Hotel Finisterra. For reservations, please call the
Baja Resorts Sales office at 800-347-2252, fax: 520-529-4549, or email
Yvette@bajahotels.com. Please identify yourself as a participant in the IGFA Offshore
World Championship. Group rates are $110 USD per night, not including taxes. There
are also one-bedroom suites available for $265 USD plus applicable taxes.
For your convenience, box lunches are available from the Hotel Finisterra. These
lunches are $11 USD and may be pre-ordered during Angler Registration on Sunday,
May 11, 2008. The lunches will be ready for pick-up in the Finisterra lobby each
morning before heading to the API dock.
Trans Cabo will be our transportation partner for the IGFA Offshore World
Championship. Trans Cabo will have transportation waiting for you at San Jose del
Cabo airport with championship exclusive rates of $26 USD round-trip transfer. These
transportation professionals will welcome you to Cabo and can meet all your personal
transportation needs. Fore reservations, please contact Trans Cabo at by clicking here
Anglers will be required to use only Momoi IGFA class 30 lb Hi-Catch line
(fluorescent yellow only), the “Official Line of the IGFA Offshore World
Championship”. Please do not confuse Momoi IGFA Class line with Momoi
“Diamond” line which has a higher breaking strength than stated on the label. We have
found this line to be very reliable and received praise about the line in the last few
championships. This also ensures that all anglers are on an even playing field as far as
their line is concerned. We encourage anglers to call their retailers for Momoi line prior
to arrival in Cabo San Lucas if you plan to bring your own tackle. However, if you can’t
obtain the line in your area, Minerva’s Baja Tackle in Cabo (a short walk from Hotel
Finisterra) will have a great supply of the Momoi line. If you don’t plan to carry your
personal rods and reels to Cabo, every charter boat in the tournament will have four 30-lb
rods aboard with the official Momoi 30 lb IGFA class line. Tournament officials will be
monitoring all fishing lines daily.
Registration Fee and Boat Draw – The registration fee for a team of up to four anglers
is $7500. This includes the cost of four days fishing aboard local charter boats. Teams
will be assigned a different charter boat each day as determined at the boat draw prior to
the Kick-off party on Sunday, May 11. Additional anglers can be added for $750 each.
Only four anglers per team are permitted on the boats each day to fish – no
exceptions. Team members may rotate days if they have more than four anglers. Also
included in the registration fee are stuffed angler bags for each team member, continental
breakfast each morning in the Hotel Finisterra lobby, all social events, including
complimentary drink tickets and plenty of cold Corona beer. Registration and deposit fees are fully refundable through February 29th. Complete payment is due prior to March 28, 2008. Registration fees for non-fishing guests is $400 and includes all social events, drink tickets, the Shotgun “Bloody Mary” boat trip and photo op on the first morning of fishing.

Once again we will have the optional shopping/sightseeing and lunch trip on an
air-conditioned bus to Todo Santos for guests of tournament anglers. This trip features
the famous Hotel California and incredible scenery. Todos Santos was founded as an
oasis, and is blessed with a rare charm and serenity. Time can be spent browsing the
artisan’s shops and crafts in the Casa de la Cultura. Lunch will be served at the famous
gourmet Santa Fe Restaurant. This tour is Wednesday, May 23, 2007 with the motor
coach, supplied by Trans Cabo, departing Hotel Finisterra at 9 am and returning at 4
pm. The price is $100 USD and includes a gourmet lunch. Seating is limited, so don’t
wait until the last minute!
Also returning for its fourth year is the very popular Roosterfish Tournament. This
half-day fishing tournament is for guests of championship anglers and will be held on
Tuesday May 13, 2008. Fishing is done from pangas with Cabo’s finest light tackle
captains close to shore. Breathtaking views, thriving sea life and the allure of Cabo’s
coastline are all combined with some of the world’s finest fishing. A 14 kt gold handpainted
roosterfish pendant from KD & G Sea Life Masterpieces will be awarded to the
winners. Price is $350 USD with a maximum of three anglers per boat. Licenses and
bait are included.
All social functions, including the awards party, are informal. We encourage participants
to wear team shirts and jerseys. Cabo is set in the beautiful desert state of Baja Sur with
comfortably cool mornings. Rain is merely a rumor in Cabo, averaging less that nine days
of precipitation per year.
Rules for the tournament are listed on the tournament website at www.igfa.org. There
may be slight adjustments to these rules between now and the tournament, but you will
receive the final rules by April 15, 2008.
All billfish caught in the tournament must be released. Dolphin, wahoo and tuna
(minimum 25 lb) may be weighed in and will count one point per pound. All weighed
fish will be donated to a local food bank.
Fishing in Cabo San Lucas is done by casting live or dead bait and/or trolling lures.
Often, marlin are seen tailing on the surface at which time a live bait may be cast to them,
or dropped back in front of the fish. Live bait is purchased from bait boats after the team
leaves the dock each morning. In order to assure live bait for all, the rules limit each boat
to purchase an equal number of pieces of live bait. Dead bait is allowed and a formal
ruling on restrictions will be included in the April 15, 2008 rules update.
It is a good idea for anglers to practice casting baits to fish if you are not familiar with the
technique. A seminar during team registration on Sunday, May 11 at the Hotel
Finisterra will be held and is great practice for casting bait. Please take some time with
Cabo’s finest captains as they hold this most informative seminar. Circle hooks are
required for all live or dead baits and will be provided. All circle hooks must be 0
degrees offset.
VISAS: International anglers, please be aware if your country requires a visa for travel
to Mexico. Lesley Arico can provide your embassy with an invitation letter for your
team. Please allow up to six weeks for this process.
The entire staff at IGFA is excited about the 2008 IGFA Offshore World Championship and look forward to seeing you in Cabo. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lesley Arico, Offshore Championship Coordinator at IGFA, 954-924-4222, email: Larico@igfa.org.
