With paintings by Flick Ford, text by Dean Travis Clarke, and an introduction by Peter Kaminsky, Fish is an enchanting book. Ford provides stunning watercolor portraits of this continent’s greatest species. And Clarke provides complimentary short stories and musings about such topics as bait, habitat, distribution, cookery, state of our oceans, conservation efforts, aquaculture, and fishing with kids. The result is a stunning coffee-table volume, perfect for angler, naturalist, educator, everyone. Angler’s Guide to Fishes of the Gulf of Mexico is an excellent one-stop reference tool for recreational and commercial fishermen, biologists, and fisheries experts. Jerald Horst and Mike Lane offer detailed information on 207 species of saltwater fish found in the Gulf – habitat, identification, typical size, food value, names (common, scientific, local) – and Duane Raver’s illustrations are superb. A Guide to Common Freshwater Invertebrates of North America, written by J. Reese Voshell, Jr., meets the need of naturalists, environmentalists, anglers, teachers, students, and others by providing substantive information in easy-to-understand language for many groups of invertebrates commonly found in the freshwater environments of North America . It also contains more than 100 specially-commissioned color illustrations by Amy Bartlett Wright that will greatly facilitate identification of specimens. Dangerous Sea Life, written by Edwin S. Iversen and Renate H. Skinner, was originally published in 1977 (How to Cope with Dangerous Sea Life). In both editions the authors provide accurate information about dangerous sea life, suggest how to avoid getting stung or bitten (and first aid tips if you are bitten, stung or poisoned), offer means of safeguarding your health by proper preparation of your catch for eating, and include data on the effects of eating fish and shellfish from polluted waters. In order to provide answers to the most common questions asked by beginning lure collectors and to facilitate their understanding of antique fishing lures, Dudley Murphy and Rick Edmisten have intentionally avoided lengthy pages of text in Fishing Lure Collectibles: An Encyclopedia of the Early Years, 1840 to 1940. Instead, they’ve made excellent use of marvelous color photographs and have drawn upon two lifetimes of knowledge and experience to create this most complete and convenient single-volume reference on the subject.

Alaska is filled with incredible natural resources and some of the most productive fisheries in the world. Because the waters are so diverse, tapping into local knowledge is key. Fly-Fishing Secrets of Alaska’s Best Guides by Will Rice reveals the most effective methods practiced by some of Alaska ’s greatest guides. You can review their various approaches and then choose the type of fishing and trip that most appeals to you. The second edition of Susquehanna River Guide, written by Christopher Beatty, features fishing locations, tackle and techniques, parks, boating spots, hiking trails, picnic areas, and wildflower refuges from the Chesapeake Bay to northern Pennsylvania. Accompanying the text are more than 40 maps that will help you safely explore and enjoy the beauty of the Susquehanna Valley . The updated and expanded edition of Arizona Trout Streams and Their Hatches tells you when and where to go, what bugs to expect on the water, and how best to imitate them. Charles R. Meck and John Rohmer include comprehensive maps, local fly patterns and hatch charts, plus they examine the trout waters impacted in recent years by floods, drought and forest fires. Ray Shewnack and Bill Frangos have enjoyed New Mexico ’s trout streams for years, and in 49 Trout Streams of New Mexico they share their experiences with the state’s beautiful and accessible waters. The 200 color photos capture the allure of each locale and the flies used, and the text captures a slice of time in the authors’ fly-fishing history. The fantastic fly fishing in Idaho is not a secret: two of the most famous spring creeks in the U.S. – The Henry’s Fork of the Snake River and Silver Creek – are here. But a fisherman can go virtually anywhere in the state and be within a short distance of a blue-ribbon trout stream. R. Randolph Ashton spent a year shooting thousands of photographs and Will Godfrey supplied the text for Fly Fishing in Idaho, which is a breathtaking look at this fly fisherman’s paradise.

Jack Berryman provides this unique look at people (including household names such as Dan Bailey, Ted Trueblood and Zane Grey) who helped shape Northwest fly fishing. With original photos, illustrations and fly plates. Shane Mensforth is one of Australia ’s foremost writers. His book, 50 Years of Fishing, is an autobiographical account of how a passion for sport fishing turned into a full-time freelance career. Starting at the beginning with tales of his younger days, he covers favorite fishing areas close to his South Australia home, memorable fish caught over the years, battles with great white sharks, filming fishing for television, and much more. Friends Christopher Arelt and Sebastian O’Kelly have been fishing together for more than 20 years. In The Offbeat Angler (subtitled Fish Tales & Muddy Adventures) they share stories of sport, friendship and travel. You’ll be amused and entertained by their offbeat and spirited adventures as they fly fish along the eastern seaboard for unusual species in odd places.    In The Ultimate Guide to Striped Bass Fishing, Eric Burnley has compiled everything you need to know to be successful at catching this wonderful species. He begins by explaining the biology and life cycle of the striped bass, its migratory patterns up and down the coast, the baitfish and other food it prefers, and the underwater structures that attract the big stripers. Also covered: shore and boat methods, tips and techniques, tackle, where and when to fish, and more. Let Bob Linsenman be your guide to the best steelhead fishing the Great Lakes have to offer. In Best Streams for Great Lakes Steelhead you’ll find a brief history of angling in the area, fish behavior, the flies that best imitate the food steelhead feed on (time-tested fly patterns are included), tackle and tactics, casting tips including modern Spey techniques, and detailed descriptions of the best rivers and streams in the Great Lakes basin (plus nearby airports, lodging, fly shops and outfitters). Getting started in fly fishing (the subtleties of casting, the myriad of flies, the fine points of entomology) can be intimidating. Jon Round’s Basic Fly Fishing gives you the essential facts and skills, and straightforward, expert instruction on the fundamentals of the sport, so you can get out on the water and catch fish. Six chapters cover gear, knots and rigging up, casting, trout flies, trout fishing, and fly fishing for bass and pike. The book’s beautifully illustrated and photographed (the casting photos feature Lefty Kreh). Funnyman Buck Peterson brings his special brand of humor to his Complete Guide to Fishing. It’s a “brazenly fresh” look at the newest fishing technologies, tackle and techniques; fishing boat and tournament behavior; fish names; effects of hybridization; fishing rules, regulations and licenses; etc. Saltwater Flies of the Northeast is all about productive patterns, and is intended to serve as a desk reference for both beginning and advanced anglers and tiers. Angelo Pelosi profiles the exceptional flies of more than 100 professional and amateur tiers, guides and captains, designs and patterns that have been successfully fished from the southern tip of New Jersey up through the coastline of Maine. You’ll find descriptions and recipes for more than 400 effective patterns, plus wonderful visuals.
