Mission Statement
The International Game Fish Association is a not-for-profit organization committed to the conservation of game fish and the promotion of responsible, ethical angling practices through science, education, rule making and record keeping.
Core Job Description
Reporting to the President, the Education Director will supervise and participate in the planning, development, and implementation of all IGFA educational initiatives. The Director will also oversee the implementation of educational labs, camps, and other programs for the International Fishing Hall of Fame. In addition to programmatic responsibilities, this position will act as a liaison between IGFA and the education communities.
The Director of Education will be an outgoing, dynamic individual who is a team-builder and team player who thrives in a collegial environment. This Director must be self-sufficient, work well without direction and assistance and “roll up his/her sleeves” to help in all areas of the Association if called upon to do so. The Director of Education will have the ability to interact with diverse groups of people, including the many members of IGFA around the world. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of five to seven years of progressive education experience including a demonstrated success creating and implementing a comprehensive education program.
IGFA fishing programs are designed to teach new anglers principles of ethical angling. IGFA educational programs are designed to teach environmental conservation and ethical angling through science. IGFA fishing and educational programs may take place at IGFA headquarters or in any other location where our 20,000+ membership is served.
Essential Functions / Areas of Responsibilities
- Ability to manage and supervise assigned employees, volunteers and interns as directed in the Policy and Procedures manual
- With the Director of Finance, create and manage annual budgets for the Education Department
- Experience developing educational curricula
- Experience working with foundations and other entities to secure funding through donations and the writing of grant proposals
- Control schedules and staffing
- Have the ability and enjoy working with children and young anglers
Minimum Qualifications: For consideration, applicants should meet the following basic selection factors:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required while an advanced degree is preferred. College or technical training in an environmental science field is preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to travel and work some weekends
- Must be able to speak, read and write in English
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
- Experience interacting with the public in a proficient and positive manner
- Understanding the world of fishing as well as the ability to comfortably speak about angling
