Boy’s Day Out

Pete Reilly and his sons Brendan (17) and Conor (12) went out for a day of fishing off of Cancun, Mexico in June of 2008 where they caught this beefy blackfin tuna and a monster of a skip jack tuna. After a rough ride out to the fishing grounds the boys put their baits out and were rewarded with several tuna of various species. They also had several sailfish and a white marlin come into their spread. Way to go guys!

Double Dose of Sailfish !

IGFA Junior Member, Zach Baltrun, caught this beautiful sailfish in 150 feet of water off the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. Zach was dialed into the fish on this trip as this was his second sailfish of the day. Zach’s second sail ate a sardine on one of his flatlines during a double hook up. In the heat of the action, Zach’s fish was just about to spool him when his fishing buddies quickly landed and released the first sailfish to concentrate on Zach’s fish. After great work by the boat’s captain, Zach was able to chase this sailfish down and gain some line back before landing the fish for a quick picture. This incredible billfish was quickly released and sent back to help keep the sailfish population strong. Keep up the great work, Zach!

Monster Kahala!

Five year old Micah Barville and his dad Mark went out for a day of live baiting off of Kona, Hawaii. After a slow day, Micah suggested to his dad that they try dropping their baits to the bottom and see if they would have better luck. In no time at all, Micah and his dad were hooked into something that felt like the bottom but was still pumping the rod. It took over 20 minutes before the father/son team could see color. When the fish got to the surface they realized it was a formidable amberjack (known in Hawaii as the kahala)! The fish measured 5 ½ feet long and tipped the scales at 128 lbs (58.2 kg). Nice work guys!

DOORMAT Flounder!

Ten year old Christopher Grazioso caught this doormat on the first day of his summer vacation in June of 2008. Christopher was fishing on his family's boat, Hot Pepper, off of Gardner's Island, N.Y. The fish officially weighed 10 lbs which just missed the Boys Small Fry record by 12 ounces! Great work, Christopher!

Record Marlin

William Hawkeswood caught this beautiful blue marlin while fishing with his dad Edward, and brother Harry, off the coast of La Gomera in the Canary Islands. They were targeting bigeye tuna when this blue marlin showed up in their spread. During the grueling one hour fifteen minute fight, the fish took several long runs and put on an amazing aerial display. Captain Jason Pipes decided the fish would be close to the new smallfry world record so they brought the fish to the scale and the marlin weighed in at 493lbs! Congratulations to William on his
record catch!

First Sail!

Danny Beare caught and released this sail fish while fishing a wide weed line in about 150' of water off Hillsboro Inlet, FL in June, 2008.  He was fishing with his Dad Dan Beare, Uncle Dave Inman (both in the picture), Aunt Tricia, Mom Kim, Sister Jackie and Brother Jake on his Gramma Donna's boat the Ragamuffin.  Danny lives with his family in North Carolina but his Mom and Dad grew up in South Florida and they all visit his Gramma as often as possible.  Fishing off Gramma's dock is a daily all day event unless the boat is going out.  Danny sure is following his mommy and daddy and grandparents footsteps in his love of the ocean and especially of fishing.

Older Pictures

As you can see we need more pictures of you with your monster fish. Send them to us and you could be featured in the next issues of the International Junior Angler
