7th World Recreational Fishing Conference

The 7th World Recreational Fishing Conference (7WRFC) was held September 1-4, 2014 at the Convention Center of the State University of Campinas (São Paulo State), Brazil. It was expertly organized and chaired by IGFA Representative Prof. Ezequiel Theodoro da Silva (Brazil) and was attended by 209 participants from 17 countries. This year’s conference focused on “Change, transformation and adaptation in recreational fisheries” and was structured around four keynote speeches, 70 presentations, three workshops, one round table and 23 posters.

IGFA Conservation Director Jason Schratwieser served on the conference’s International Steering Committee and also gave a presentation on the IGFA Catchlog, which is an ongoing pilot study that is using smartphone technology to collect recreational catch data. The location of the 2017 conference was also selected and it will be held in Victoria, British Columbia Canada.
